My Dharmaj
Along with the development of human life the life style also has changed. The mankind which lived in jungles has moved out to cities in the present days.
In this race the man living in natural forest has moved to concrete jungle. In concrete jungles while on one hand there is increase in facilities and equipments
for easy life on the other hand he is subjected to increased stress and worries. To escape this man has started turning back to the nature. He is looking forward
to the villages instead of residing in cities. The village Dharmaj located in Anand district of Gujarat State of India is one such solution.
The district formerly known as Kheda has been divided into two districts called Kheda and Anand. Both these districts are known as districts of NRIs.
This area is also known as Charotar. Dharmaj town, 220 – 25 ’ North longitude and 720 – 48 ’ latitude East is located on National highway between Vasad
and Tarapur. It is 84 feet above MSL and at a distance of 50 Km from Vadodara, 90 Km from Ahmedabad, 38 km from Nadiad and 35 from Anand. From
total revenue area of 1448 – 93 – 59 hectare of the village Dharmaj about 1271–71 – 77 is agriculture land and 17 – 23 – 00 hectares is built–up area.
Among the 11,334 population majority community is Patels. Of the 4123 houses, 2966 are pucca (permanent) buildings. Normally it is cold for a month or two
in a year and for the rest of the months the weather is hot. During winter the temperature will be between 100 and 150 C. and in summer it rises up to 450 – 460 C.
Average rainfall is 25” – 30”.
While all the above may be applicable to any average village, Dharmaj has developed in a distinct manner so that it can be a preferred alternative to the polluted cities.
In Dharmaj while all the facilities of urban life style are available it has maintained pollution free rural atmosphere. This is the result of far sightedness, entrepreneurship
and honest public life topped by the multicolored unity of the village. “Unity is Strength” in other words in the modern times Dharmaj has achieved the strength collectively.
The prosperity of this village is rooted into our enterprising ancestors who travelled overseas even before independence of India. Spread far and wide all over the world
and acquiring prosperity, they retained deep and strong bonding for their native place. For continuity of this tradition and bonding “The Dharmaj Day“ is being celebrated
on 12th January every year. 12th January is chosen as that day is the birthday of Swami Vivekananda.
